The judge stands in the middle of the ring and looks at her first class.

"Please take your dogs around the ring and place the first dog on the table to be examined. As soon as the dog in front of you has been removed from the table, please put your dog up and get ready for examination."

SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day Empty Re: SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day

Post  Sunchaser109 Tue Jun 03, 2008 10:39 pm

Sunchaser looked at the judge a little nervously. She was prepared but even so she still had gitters just being in front of them. She closed her eyes for a moment and let out a breathe that she did not realize she was holding. With a nod at her dog who was looking up at her she set off at a walk. SHe knew what to do and so did Ella. The girl was showing off what it was like to be a champion dog even thoughs he was not one... yet.

Sunchaser smiled and bent down to pick up her gorgeous clean dog and put her on the table. She quicly brushed down where her arms had messed up the females hair and stood back for the judge to see.

SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day Empty Re: SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day

Post  Ryuukokoro Wed Jun 04, 2008 9:00 pm

Ryuu stood with Rascal's lead in her hand, transferring it from one hand to the other, a slight display of nerves. She watched the other trainers ahead of her in line go up, one by one in their classes. Carefully she studied them as they went quickly around the ring with their dogs--her nerves were getting worse. There was a lot of very good looking dogs out there today!

On the other hand, Rascal was the epitome of cool. He stood by her side, looking almost bored. His first attempt to lay down was foiled when Ryuu tugged briefly on the lead; after that he stood and didn't fidget. His warm brown eyes wandered to the other Open Black contestants standing nearby. His tail beat a brief rythem on the floor when Ella glanced his way.

Ryuu swallowed a sharp intake of breath as she heard the announcer call the Open Black class. This was it! She stepped forward and started her jog around the ring with the other contestants, happy that Rascal was pacing right in time with her, but her brain was already two steps ahead. Okay, first they'd go around the ring, then line up in the center where the judge was standing, right? Yeah, that's what the other classes had done. Then she just had to pray Rascal would stand there and not get distracted by the other dogs...

"Next up is DHK's Son of the Devil, out of Evening at the Theater and Early Sunrise, with handler Ryuu Kokoro."

Ryuu jumped a little, surprised they were calling Rascal's registered name already. She had worried so much she hadn't noticed the other contestants going ahead of her, and now it was her turn. Quickly Ryuu brought Rascal to the judge's table and lifted him up. Rascal was behaving like a pro now. He stood still, all distractions tuned out as the judge looked him over, putting her hands on him and taking her measures. Ryuu could almost imagine her sheltie's smug look, as if saying "See how this isn't a big deal for me?"

Before she knew it, the judge indicated that she was done and Rascal jumped down to the ground. Ryuu's head was almost spinning. Did it always seem to fly by so quick at the end? She jogged with Rascal back in line to wait for the rest to finish.

SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day Empty Re: SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day

Post  Scullisto Fri Jun 06, 2008 6:51 pm

Scullisto takes a deep breath and steps forward into the ring. The last of the hairspray has dried and chalk has fluffed the excess away as Masque strides confidently at her side. His head held high and a snap to his step, Masque believes his all his work that has gone into his handler has been worth it.

Scullisto brings Masque up behind Ryu's dog and takes her place on the table as indicated. Beads of sweat trickled down Sculli's back and the judge went over Masques body from nose to tail. Masque held held his pose in rigid lucidity as he allowed the judges hands to go over him.

When the examine was done, Scullisto let out a breath and popped Masques onto the ground so his snappy stride could be seen by the crowd.

SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day Empty Re: SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day

Post  Nyxie Fri Jun 06, 2008 10:44 pm

Jasmine danced at the end of the lead for a moment before she stilled, lifting her head to look at her handler. The poor pup was bored, not sure that she liked the show life much. Nyxie smiled down at her, clicking her tongue to get her to settle. Before she knew it, it was her turn to take a spin around the ring, keeping Jasmine at a brisk walk. Once they had taken their lap around the ring, Nyxie picked the pooch up and settled her on the table, smoothing any bits of fur she had displaced in handling her. She waited, her nerves on end as the judged looked over Jasmine from nose to tail tip before dismissing her. Nyxie took a deep breath before lifting the dog and putting her on the ground, walking back to take her place next to the other contestants.

SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day Empty Re: SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day

Post  Lectral Sun Jun 08, 2008 3:31 pm

Lectral walked Lilana around the ring with the other shelties, and waited patiently while the dogs before her were examined. She took a moment to glance over the competitiion, then ran a critical eye over her dog. Her white sparkled, every hair lying where it should. The female had been groomed to the utmost of her tolerance, and Lectral hoped it would be enough.

When it was her turn, Lectral placed the willing dog on the table, and hoped the dog's beauty and personality would make a good impression on the judge. After a few moments, the judge indicated she was done, and Lectral set her dog back on the ground, and returned to the waiting line.

The show superintendent dutifully recorded each dog and its placement as they left the ring, listening to the judge as she remarked about each class and about the dogs.

Open Sable
Pretty dog, and very well-groomed, but the handling could have been much better
1 - #60

Open Blue
This dog needed more grooming and more work on the end of a leash if he's going to succeed.
1 - #05

Open Black
This is a hard class to choose. The color-headed white is a very pretty dog, but the handler needs to learn to calm down, and to keep her dog under control - I gasped when it jumped off the table onto the concrete floor like that. But she moves the dog well. The other biblack's handler needs to speed up a little more so there isn't that short, snappy stride in the movement, but a long, reaching, elegant stride. But that dog and handler certainly were a little more calm. This was a very hard choice.

1 - #65
2 - #44

Winners Male

The judge stood back and surveyed her three class winners for Winners Male. The blue was definitely out. It was spinning on the end of its lead, refusing to cooperate. The sable was a very pretty dog, probably her favourite of the day, but it just stood like a lump, not baiting or presenting himself. The biblack, however, was a very flashy dog. She thought nerves might be getting to the handler, but not to the dog, who stood happily wagging his tail. She sent the dogs around one final time, watching carefully, before pointing to her choice. "Winners Dog to the Open Black."

Winners Male: #65

The pretty colourheaded white stepped back into the ring. This was a no-brainer. It seemed her time through the classes had calmed the handler a little. Sending them around again, she pointed at the colourheaded white. "Reserve."

Reserve Winners Dog: #44

The superintendent smiled as everyone congratulated the winners, and turned her attention to the female classes.

Open Sable
I do love sables, and this little girl is very pretty. The grooming could have a little more polish, and a little faster pace wouldn't hurt either, but overall, a very nice little girl.

1- #93

Open Black
Another difficult class. This area certainly seems to have quality in its black dogs. Two lovely tricolour girls. That white-faced girl certainly is different, isn't she? Had a blue like that years ago, but never a tri. She's a lovely dog, but moving much too slow. Looks like she's got no extension whatsoever. That other tri - she's a beauty. Looks like my first Sheltie from years ago. Very classic Banchory style head on that girl. Both well groomed too, but I don't know... something about that white-faced girl just draws my eye.

1 - #71
2 - #82

Winners Female
The judge stood back and surveyed her two entrants for Winners female. That striking white faced girl, or the very elegant and typey sable. She signalled both handlers to take their dogs around the ring.

She stopped them just at the far corner. "Take your dog to the corner and back," she directed to the first handler, the sable, pointing to the end of the diagnol. The dog moved cleanly coming and going, albeit still a bit slow. But that expression! Sweet and melting, just what a Sheltie should be. She pointed to the adjacent side. "Just take your dog over there and relax."

She pointed at the white faced tri. "To the corner and back." No, the dog was still moving to slow, giving the appearance of wide movement front and rear. She did like the mischievous glint in its eyes though, and the smoothness of the head. She pointed for the handler to set the dog behind the sable.

Standing back, she looked at both dogs a final time. Finally, she sent them around.

"Winners Bitch is the open sable. Reserve to the Open Black."

Winners Female: #93

Reserve Winners Female: #71

SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day Empty Re: SSA Specialty #1 -- Show Day

Best Of Breed

The superintendent stood and called the two winners for the Best of Breed competition.

"Winners Male #65, Winners Female #93 please!"

The judge stood back, surveying both dogs. Both were well-trained and well-presented. With a wave of her hand, she sent them both around the ring once.

The male was still moving too slow, with that short, snappy step, and he held his head much too high. The female could have been moving a little faster, but she leveled out well, with more reach and drive to her gait.

As they both stopped, she walked up to each, looking at the dog's expressions as they baited for their handlers. The male certainly had personality plus; you could see it in his eyes. The bitch was the epitome of a sweet, elegant young lady, refined and demure.

She sent the male on the diagonal. Not bad. the short stride wasn't so evident from front and back. Sending him back to his place in line, she pulled out the female, sending her up. Looked like she might be getting tired and a bit draggy. The handler should be doing more to keep her up and prevent her from getting bored in the ring.

The judge glanced at the two dogs' expressions before sending the sable back to her place in line.

Standing back, she looked between the dogs again. Finally making her choice, she gestured to the sable to move to the front of the line. "Take them both around once for me please!"

As the dogs moved around the ring, the judge encouraged everyone to clap for them.

Pointing at the sable, she said loudly, "Best of Breed, Best of Winners!"

Pointing at the biblack, she called "Best of Opposite Sex!"

Best of Breed, Best of Winners: #93
Best of Opposite Sex: #65

[Points tally:
#65 - Winners Male, Best of Opposite Sex: 2 points
#93 - Winners Female, Best of Winners, Best of Breed: 3 points

Well done to everyone!!
I do hope you enjoyed yourself and I welcome comments here about how this might be improved, etc.]

Post  Scullisto Wed Jun 11, 2008 6:56 pm

Scullisto sighed a big sigh of relief and hugged her hanbdsome Masque. Masque shrugged a little, he new he did well and there would be treats waiting for him out side of the ring.

Congratulations were given to the best of breed, with a firm handshake and a happy smile. Her first show was a success...next time will be easier!

Congrats!

Scullisto
