You have a beautiful Sheltie. You've found the perfect mate. You want to make little baby Shelties.

Welcome to the Beginner's Guide to Breeding Shelties!

To breed Shelties you MUST have three things:
a male Sheltie
Breeding Shelties: An Introduction S01
a female Sheltie
Breeding Shelties: An Introduction S32
and a Best of Breed Ribbon
Breeding Shelties: An Introduction Ribbonbreed

You have to post a request in the Breed Requests forum, using the form provided there. PLEASE NOTE: If you are using someone else's Sheltie for the breeding, they have to post permission as well before the breeding can be authorized!

Once all the paperwork is in order, the kennel manager (me!) will approve the breeding, and hopefully, in a few days, you will have a cuddly, happy puppy! Males will occur more often than females (approximately 5:1 ration). Shelties will usually have only one puppy, although twins may be obtained using ribbons, or may be born spontaneously (about 1 in 100 births)!

Puppies will grow into adults, on average, after approximately a month. DO NOT HARASS THE KENNEL MANAGER ABOUT GROWING TIMES! YOUR PUPPIES WILL GROW WHEN THEY ARE READY!

Ribbons and colours will be explained below!
