What colour is my Sheltie?
The Wonderful World of Sheltie Colours
For those of you new to Shelties, or looking for your first, this will introduce you to each of the natural Sheltie colours. You will find an example (or two) of each as a PI Sheltie.
All Shelties have the white "bib", white feet, and a white tip on the tail
Sable
Sable is the most common colour of Sheltie, and can range in shade from golden to mahogany, with varying amounts of white.
Tricolour
Predominately black body, with tan points on the face and legs, and varying amounts of white
Blue Merle
Grey-ish blue body with black splashes (called "merling"), tan points on the face and legs, and varying amounts of white. Shades of blue can range from a clear silvery blue to steel gray
Bi-Black
Black body with white markings
Bi-Blue Merle
Like a blue merle without the tan points
Sable Merle
Sables, ranging in colour from golden to mahogany, with black splashes ("merling") and varying shades of white
Colour-Headed White
Any of the above colours with a predominately white body [Please note: When ordering this colour, please specify base colour, i.e. "colour-headed white sable merle"]
